<\/a><\/p>\nAren’t they so adorable.\u00a0 I think so.\u00a0 But I am sure I am biased.\u00a0 So, not only have I been growing my private practice and my family, I have also been growing my side projects as well.\u00a0 I have worked tirelessly on 2 different apps\/programs.\u00a0 One to treat Apraxia of Speech and one to treat Tongue Thrust.\u00a0 Right now all of the content for both apps\/programs are complete – we are just working out the last few coding bugs.\u00a0 Bugs are the worst because they take a while to figure out.\u00a0 But, no worries, we are chipping away at them and can’t wait to launch both apps\/programs.\u00a0 Here are some sneak peeks…<\/p>\n
Apraximations…<\/p>\n
The name of the product, Apraximations, is a combination of the name – Apraxia of Speech, and the word “approximation” – meaning a “word approximation” – or simplified version of a specific word (i.e. “ba” for the word “ball”).\u00a0 Therefore, this product is meant to offer a systematic progression of speech targets (from word approximations to true words and sentences) for children suffering with any kind of speech impairment, but especially those who have Apraxia of Speech.<\/p>\n
The Apraximations app consists of 2 main sections.\u00a0 The mouth cue section, and the picture cue section.<\/p>\n
Both sections of the app consist of a drill portion, a matching game, and a free build portion.<\/p>\n The Mouth Cue Drills section of the app uses real life mouth pictures as visual cues for each phoneme.<\/p>\n Each mouth cue picture card provides you with:<\/p>\n -a real life picture of a mouth producing the sound<\/p>\n -phonetic transcription of the sound<\/p>\n -an example word that uses the sound<\/p>\n -an icon along with a matching symbol to show the sound\u2019s voicing characteristics<\/p>\n -an icon along with a matching symbol to show the sound\u2019s manner characteristics<\/p>\n -an icon to show the sound\u2019s placement characteristics<\/p>\n -the audio of the sound being produced<\/p>\n If you have any questions about the icons and symbols used, you simply click on the question mark in the top right hand of the screen (it isn’t shown in this picture – but it will be on the final app) which will take you to a more in depth description of each characteristic – as seen in the following 3 pictures.<\/p>\n In the Mouth Cues Drills portion you can target the following sounds and syllable shapes<\/p>\n Sounds: All Consonants and Vowels (uh, aw, ahh, ee, oo, ouh, eh, ih, m, n, ng, h, f, v, s, z, sh, zh, th, TH, l, r, ch, j, p, b, t, d, k, g)<\/p>\n Syllable Shapes: Vowel-Vowel, Consonant-Vowel, Vowel-Consonant, Consonant-Consonant<\/p>\n In the Mouth Cues Matching portion of the app you are able to practice the production of sounds while playing a game.<\/p>\n In the Mouth Cues Free Build portion of the app you are able to create any sound, syllable, or word (up to 6 characters long) to practice.\u00a0 The possibilities are endless in this portion of the app.\u00a0 You can put together the mouth cues to build any target for any client.<\/p>\n The Picture Cue portion of the app offers the same choices as the Mouth Cue portion of the app, only it uses picture cues instead of mouth cues.<\/p>\n Each Picture Cue card provides you with:<\/p>\n -a picture of the target word<\/p>\n -the spelling of the target word<\/p>\n -phonetic transcription of the target word<\/p>\n -a mouth cue picture for each sound used to produce the target word<\/p>\n -the symbols that show each sound’s voicing, manner, and placement characteristics<\/p>\n -the audio of the word being produced<\/p>\n Again – if you have any questions about the icons and symbols used, you simply click on the question mark in the top right hand of the screen (it isn’t shown in this picture – but it will be on the final app) which will take you to a more in depth description of each characteristic.<\/p>\n In the Picture Cues Drill portion you can target the following sounds and syllable shapes<\/p>\n Sounds: All Consonants and Vowels (uh, aw, ahh, ee, oo, ouh, eh, ih, m, n, ng, h, f, v, s, z, sh, zh, th, TH, l, r, ch, j, p, b, t, d, k, g)<\/p>\n Syllable Shapes: Vowel-Vowel, Vowel-Vowel-Vowel, Consonant-Vowel, Consonant-Vowel-Vowel, Vowel-Consonant, Vowel-Vowel-Consonant.<\/p>\n In the Picture Cues Matching portion of the app you are able to practice the production of words while playing a game.<\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a> <\/a> <\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n
